When Periyar married Maniammai, who was more than 40years younger than him, the personal differences between Annadurai and Periyar split their supporters. Periyar’s mismatched marriage in 1949 with the young lady provided the pretext for the birth of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.


During this period C.N. Annadurai has written an essay on 3-7-1949 in his magazine “Dravida Nadu” about Periyar mismatched marriage and told that because of his marriage he and thousands of supporters of Periyar were ashamed to stand before other people telling that they are his followers. DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi doesn’t have any immoveable property, not even a car, but along with two wives owns moveable assets worth Rs.. 41.13 crore, as per his election affidavit.


Karunanidhi has moveable assets of around Rs. 4.93 crore as bank deposits and cash on hand, the affidavit filed by him while submitting his nomination for Thiruvarur assembly seat for the April 13 polls on March 24.


Karunanidhi has declared moveable assets of Rs. 15.34 crore for his first wife, Dayalu Ammal, and Rs. 20.83 crore for his second wife Rajathi Ammal.


Dayalu Ammal has a share of Rs. 6 crore in Kalaignar TV, while Rajathi Ammal has a share of Rs. 2.5 crore in West Gate Logistics Pvt. Ltd., and other investment in business to the tune of Rs. 2.57 crore.


Due to Karunanidhi and DMK Ministers unaccounted huge wealth; the money is being distributed for the voters in the election in several ways. The Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption agitation made its first impact on Wednesday [6-4-2011]as agriculture minister Sharad Pawar resigned from the group of ministers (GoM) on corruption after being held up as an example by Hazare of a “corrupt” minister who is a member of the government body considering measures to check graft.


Even as support for Hazare spread across the country with civil society holding sit-ins in several cities, Pawar made his dramatic announcement at a public function. Hazare had also taken a dig at Kapil Sibal, another member of the GoM on corruption, for seeking to downplay the 2G scam by claiming that it had caused “zero loss” to the exchequer. Hazare may not aware that Tamil Nadu CM Karunanithi already told that there is not at all any Scam in 2G spectrum.


Nearly 200 people joined Hazare in fasting at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, and thousands of students, professionals and activists took out a candle-light procession at India Gate. The Congress’s insinuation that Hazare was protesting at the behest of the ruling party’s opponents appeared to have struck a raw chord with the protesters, leading to Hazare writing a sharply-worded letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.


Hazare asked the PM to take credible steps on corruption instead of suspecting the protesters of working at the instigation of others.


Apart from former cricket captain Kapil Dev, film icon Aamir Khan expressed solidarity with Hazare and wrote to the PM, asking him to heed the Gandhian’s views. Ordinary people like 60-year-old Geeta Gupta came from Dehradun to support Hazare. “We can’t sit idle. Anna has shown us the way,” she said. Praveen Sharma, a professor of neurosurgery from Mumbai, said, “This is the moment to treat the malaise of corruption.”


It is our request that Tamil Nadu Super Star Rajinikanth must also join hands with Hazare to wipeout corruption from public life. Anna Hazare might have chosen Chennai for his Fast against corruption, since crores of Rupees is at present flying as bribes for voters from the vested ruling party ministers in Tamil Nadu.

He too hit out against the DMK strongman. “The fact that the Melur tahsildar has made a sudden turnaround and written to the EC saying that he was not attacked by Alagiri and his men shows that Madurai is in the grip of rowdies,”he said. “Only if AIADMK comes to power can Madurai get back its lost glory,” he said.


“Madurai is now synonymous with kangaroo courts and rowdyism but the gods have decided to redeem it’s sacred nature through the voters and it is you who should bring about the change,” he told a cheering crowd.


Pausing dramatically, he said he had come to know that Kalaignar TV would be included in the second chargesheet of the 2G scam. “Did you know the next movie Karunanidhi’s grandson is making is titled, ‘Karunanidhi and the 400 thieves’, who will be his family members,” he said, evoking hoots and claps from the crowd.
