A day after India Against Corruption activists, Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan, alleged that real estate developer DLF had given properties worth crores to Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra for a song, DLF on Saturday refuted the charge saying that neither were unsecured loans given to Vadra nor was he given premier properties at heavily discounted rates.

DLF said it had business dealings with Vadra’s companies but denied that this relationship had led to undue gains for the company or that there was any quid pro quo with the Congress-run government of Haryana for land allotment. The response from the realtor, in the form of questions and answers, came even as several ministers, including finance minister P Chidambaram and law minister Salman Khurshid, rubbished the charges on TV networks.

In a statement, DLF said it had given “business advances” of . 65 crore in two tranches to Vadra-owned company, Skylight Hospitality, which it claimed was “standard industry practice”. It denied that this was an unsecured interest-free loan. The first payment of . 50 crore was made in 2008-09 for a 3.5 acre plot in Gurgaon’s Sikohpur village as part of a total consideration of . 58 crore for the plot. Another . 15 crore was paid to Skylight Group for a plot in Faridabad, but the amount was refunded as the deal did not materialize.

On Vadra purchasing an apartment in the Aralias complex in Gurgaon, DLF said he paid . 11.9 crore in September 2008 at the prevailing market price of . 12,000 per sqft. “We may also mention that while Aralias was initially launched at . 1,800 per sqft, Vadra’s purchase at . 12,000 per sqft is among the highest at which the company sold apartments in Aralias. The alleged figure of. 89 lakh as total purchase consideration is completely incorrect.”

Reacting to allegations of corruption, Robert Vadra on Saturday reassured his well-wishers on Facebook: “Thanks for the concern; I can handle all the negativity. I have lost people I loved…what can be worse than that.” The reply was the first from Gandhi family’s son-in-law since Friday when activists Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal accused him of acquiring properties currently valued at 500 crore from DLF. Finance minister P Chidambaram dismissed the demand for an inquiry into Vadra’s assets. Congress spokesman Manish Tewari dubbed the allegations as a “concert between BJP and its B-team headed by Kejriwal”.

Krishna has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stop further release of water to Tamil Nadu and to seek a report from the team that has been deputed to assess the water situation.“I would kindly urge upon you to explore the possibilities of stopping further release of water from dams in Karnataka and also call for an interim report of the team of experts,” Krishna, now on an official visit to the US, said in a letter to Singh, a copy of which was released here.Krishna hails from Cauvery basin district of Mandya, the epicenter of the stir.

The Minister said that the situation was grim in Cauvery irrigation areas and also in Bangalore following depleted water level in dams after the release of water, as per the September 19 directive of the Cauvery River Authority, headed by Singh, and upheld by the Supreme Court recently.“I sincerely feel that the situation needs your immediate attention, if it is to be prevented from worsening, as there is already a strong feeling among people of Karnataka that they may have to face severe shortage of water in the months to come,” Krishna said.

Krishna also pointed out that the monsoon was over in Karnataka while the North-East monsoon would commence in Tamil Nadu and has the prospects of adequate rains.The Karnataka Government began releasing 9,000 cusecs after the Supreme Court asked it to abide by the CRA directive, till October 15.

An IAS officer was arrested at Charbagh railway station here on Monday for allegedly attempting to rape and intimidate a young IT professional in the AC II compartment of Delhi-Lucknow Mail on Sunday night. The UP government immediately suspended the officer, Shashi Bhusan Lal Susheel, who is posted as special secretary (technical education). A railway magistrate later sent him to jail under judicial remand for 14 days.

Given the high-profile status of the accused, the government railway police (GRP) officials at Charbagh reportedly tried to get the two parties to reach a compromise. Even after inspector general (Railways) Ashutosh Pandey instructed the GRP officials to lodge a case, they didn't do so for about four hours. But, after the victim and her family refused to withdraw their complaint, they finally registered a case against Susheel for bailable offences under Sections 294 (eve teasing) and 354 (molestation).

However, sources say that when chief minister Akhilesh Yadav came to know about incident while he was addressing a rally in Hardoi, he intervened in the matter himself ordering Susheel's immediate suspension. To send out a strong message that the government would not, under any circumstance, allow such acts to prevail, the chief minister is also known to have instructed senior officials to take "all necessary punitive action" against the officer, including sending him to jail for his offence.

It was then that additional director general (railways), Gurdarshan Singh, instructed the GRP men to include sections 376 read with 511 (rape and attempt to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life) of the IPC against the accused. Taking a serious note of the police's attempts to water down the intensity of crime, the ADG also transferred the inspector in-charge of GRP Charbagh, Anil Rai, to Gorakhpur with immediate effect. Inspector Girija Shanker Tripathi was posted in his place.

According to reports, the girl and her mother boarded the train at New Delhi and were occupying berth numbers 13 and 14 in AC II coach. Shashi Bhushan entered the coach at Ghaziabad and was on the lower berth (number 15) right opposite them. In her FIR, the girl alleged that after the train left Ghaziabad, the officer tried to start a conversation with her mother. "He kept on looking at me and that left me extremely uncomfortable," the victim said. It was around day break, when the girl was asleep and her mother had gone to toilet, she suddenly woke up to find the IAS officer allegedly trying to outrage her modesty.

She raised an alarm and after her mother returned, they informed the guard on duty. Soon, other passengers of the coach also gathered there. When the victim's mother confronted him, the officer allegedly tried to throw his weight around claiming he was an IAS officer. After a heated exchange, when the victim's mother threatened to call the police the officer begged for forgiveness. However, when the guard arrived on the scene, the officer denied having committed anything wrong and dismissed the allegations as baseless. The guard then left the scene to seek help of the Railway Protection Force jawans to ensure that he did not escape. By the time the guard could return with the RPF jawans, the officer disappeared. On the basis of the description provided by the victim and her mother the guard and the RPF jawans launched a manhunt and traced him sitting in the AC I coach. He was handed over to the GRP Charbagh once the train arrived at Lucknow at around 7am.

Despite the victim adamant on initiating police action against the accused, the GRP personnel tried to hush up the case. They allegedly didn't listen to even their IG initially. It was only when the chief minister intervened that the case of attempt to rape was filed. Thereafter, the officer was produced before the railway magistrate, who sent him to jail under judicial remand for 14 days.

Action taken by U.P. Chief Minister Akilesh Yadhav will ever be appreciated by all the people of India. An I.A.S. officer who is in the highest position of safeguarding people’s welfare should not behave like a criminal.

Menon, an actor and former Miss-India second runner-up in 1994, delivered a girl child in the maternity ward of Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai in front of three cameras on Thursday 27-9-2012.

According to Times of India report, the director had planned the shoot with three cameras on Thursday. The shoot lasted for about 45 minutes and it ended with the actress planting a gentle kiss on the baby’s forehead.

The pregnancy, delivery and the early years of motherhood are to be the crux of Blessy’s upcoming movie Kalimannu. The shoot began when she was five months pregnant. In an age when pregnancy and motherhood is sometimes mechanical, the movie talks about a mother’s relationship with her fetus.

During the shoot, there were 3 members from the film crew present in the room including cinemtographer Jiby Jacob, Shwetha’s husband, Srivalsan Menon was also present during the delivery, which was a natural delivery.

The director and his team reportedly had to do prepare for a week to perfect shooting in the labour room. Both the mother and child were in good health, with the film crew reportedly taking all precautions to ensure they didn’t get in the way.

Gigi’s father, the 76-yearold owner of Cheuk Nang (Holdings) Ltd, rejected suggestions that his daughter is a lesbian, and described reports she had gotten hitched as “false,” the SCMP said.
