The Rajasthan police have arrested a sharp-shooter from Mumbai, who was allegedly hired by Falna towns, Saint Paul Schools Principal to kill a youth after he had complained about his relationship with a Teacher of the school. Police said father Sabastian Demello had allegedly hired Wahid Sheikh [35] to kill Vijumen Cherian for Rs.3.5 lakh. Demello and the 28year old teacher fled after Sheikhs arrest on 20-7-12 Friday.

DSP Rahul Barhat said the alleged sharpshooter was arrested from a local Hotel. Wahid is a known criminal from Mumbai. Our team has left for Mumbai to gather details about him. The teacher was Vijumen’s wife who worked with Demello, had told him about the relationship. Vijumen, who is a private contactor and provide Buses to the school, told us that he tried to warn the principal not to indulge in the immoral act as it could damage the school’s image. said Barhat. Demello was recently transferred to Falna in Pali District and suspected that Vijumen was behind his transfer.

He threatened to kill him if he did not stop getting involved in his affairs said the Police officer. He said Wahid had even called Vijumen from Mumbai and told him that he was coming to kill him. After reaching here, Wahid met Vijumen on the protest of buying some property on7th July. Demello called vijumen on july15th and told him that he was going to get him killed.

Wahid called Vijumen the next day and told him that his life would end in 3-4 days, said Barhat. Barhat said after Vijumen informed the police about this threat call, Wahid was arrested. He confessed to having received an initial payment of Rs.75,000 from Demello. Of the total amount he had deposited Rs.40, 000 in a bank. DSP Barhat said police teams have been rushed to Falna, Mumbai and several other places to arrest the Principal and the teacher.

A Principal who is in highest position of guiding moral habits to children is doing immoral deeds. Such persons should be severely punished then only others will rectify.

Team Anna member and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi on Saturday produced video footage showing a TV reporter instigating people to strip a 20-year-old girl outside a Guwahati pub. The TV channel where the reporter works was the first to telecast the girl molested by a group of men.    

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) asked the Assam government for a high-level impartial probe into the allegation of the reporter’s involvement in the case. Gogoi told reporters that he had given the footage to Assam police chief J N Choudhury on Saturday before making the clips public.    “The footage shows the reporter instigating the mob to molest the girl in front of the camera. It’s a shame when a reporter is involved in such a heinous crime. The incident has shamed Assam,” Gogoi said.    

Earlier, on Friday Gogoi had alleged the reporter instigated the crowd after she and her friend reacted to a lewd comment he made. Soon after, the EMFA issued a statement saying the accusation was unfounded and demanded evidence by 4pm on Saturday. Responding to EMFA’s demand, Gogoi presented the video footage backing his allegation. “I had decided to submit the video footage only to the police. The EMFA asked me for evidence to prove my allegation. So, I’m showing the footage to the media,” Gogoi said.   

 EMFA members, though, said the visuals presented by Gogoi were not enough to substantiate his allegation against the journalist. The visuals do not include raw footage of the incident; rather it was an edited DVD where there are chances of doctoring. Gogoi said raw video footage was not submitted to the police. “If the police want, we can give them the raw footage. The video we submitted to the police clearly establishes the reporter’s involvement,” he said.    

The activist will also send the footage to a National Commission for Women team probing the case.

Two ayurvedic doctors are on the run after allegedly raping a nurse from Kerala at an apartment in Anna Nagar. The doctors, also hailing from Kerala but employed in an ayurveda hospital in Tamil Nadu, brought the 19-yearold woman to Chennai on the pretext of giving her training in the city. Police said Aajil Kumar, 42, a chief doctor with Kerala Ayurveda Hospital in Trichy, employed Nisha (name changed), anative of Thodupuzha in Kerala, on May 12 as a trainee nurse. Saying she needs to undergo training in Chennai, he brought her here on July 8. They were picked up by Shreejith (35), a doctor employed with the hospital’s Chennai centre, from the railway station and taken to an apartment complex in Anna Nagar.


While she was given one of the two bedrooms, the two doctors occupied the other. The same day she was allegedly raped by the duo. Police said the duo threatened her to not to reveal the incident to anyone. But later she told her friend about it and they decided to lodge a complaint at the Thirumangalam police station. But police kept the matter pending. Meanwhile, the doctors filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Madras high court. 


But their plea was rejected and Thirumangalam police asked Nisha to approach J J Nagar police. Finally, a case was registered under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) on Monday after a medical examination of the girl. 


Narrating the incident, Nisha told TOI: “I locked my room before going for a bath, but was shocked to see Aajil inside the room when I came out. Before I could question him, I was dragged to the bed. Later he called in Shreejith.” She said: “I took up the job to support my family. Though my parents were reluctant to send me off, I was stubborn. So, I didn’t want to reveal the matter to my family members and further traumatize them.” Unable to bear the trauma, she stopped going to work and quit the job. 


Police said the duo even asked her to get her friend to agree to have sex with them. Police have former team to hunt for the accused.

The Promised Land, a children’s home on the outskirts of Salem near Paruthikadu, is the antithesis of its eponymous Biblical reference. The officials who run the institution through an organisation called Indian Christian Mission for Children (ICMC) not only use children of undisclosed origin to solicit funds, mostly from abroad, but have also been charged with physically and sexually abusing them while keeping them in squalid conditions. While The Promised Land may be an extreme case of the many homes in Tamil Nadu where children are tortured and abused, the state has done little to put a check on such institutions despite specific rules laid own under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2006 and the Orphanages and Other Charitable Homes Act, 1960. The state’s failure to guarantee a child’s right to education, proper food, housing and clothing has led to the mushrooming of such homes across Tamil Nadu. The authorities rarely conduct mandatory periodic inspections. Officials granted The Promised Land in 2010 conditional registration for six months but it continues to function without any checks. Malnourished children at the home are too scared to open up to the few visitors who are permitted within the home, located on a sprawling 120-acre site that is barricaded from the outside world by fences and all-intrusive employees.

This correspondent had to pose as a person interested in making a donation to be allowed into orphanage that is owned and run by Reverend S Jayaraj Krishna. Ramya (name changed), a seven-year-old, has been taught to tell everybody who comes to visit the home she lives in that she is an orphan. “I have no parents and neither do my friends,” she says, eyes sunk in an emaciated face covered with tousled hair. She lives with more than 20 other children in a shabby 8ft x 8ft matchbox room in a school building converted to a hostel. The children are forced to sleep on the floor without pillows or sheets. The single electric fan on the ceiling does not work. “The light and fan in our room almost never work,” said one of Ramya’s roommates. “It’s always dark in the rooms here at night. When we have to study we all go out into a playground, where a large lamp is switched on.”

Krishna also runs four colleges and three schools, including one teacher-training institute in the same campus. Construction is underway on a hospital and a medical college — all under Krishna’s organisation, Indian Christian Mission for Children (ICMC). The orphanage is off limits to locals and Indians, but foreigners and wealthy donors have limited access. “When a donor visits, he can take any child out for the day and spend $50 on him,” Krishna said. While the offer may seem generous, child rights activists say sending a child out with a stranger makes the child vulnerable to sexual abuse. On July 2, an employee of The Promised Land was arrested for allegedly molesting a Class 8 schoolgirl in the hostel. “I asked one of the school officials if I could borrow his mobile phone to call my parents.

He told me to meet him on the third floor at 8pm on Sunday,” the victim told TOI. “When I was on my way to the toilet at 4.30am on Monday, a group of four men blocked my path but I managed to escape.” A few years earlier, the family of one of the male students at the orphanage filed a complaint of sodomy against Krishna himself, but later withdrew the complaint. Foreign volunteers have also stumbled upon other irregularities at the home. “I sent money for a boy for two years,” said Andrew, an American volunteer. “I received three letters from the child. But when I visited the orphanage, I found he was missing. I was told he had left last year.”

Jackson, another volunteer, says he stayed at The Promised Land campus for a week. “I came across instances where children were given free admission and their records were used to gather donations. Later the home began demanding money from the parents on the threat of withholding the students’ transfer certificates.” According the district social welfare department’s own records, it last inspected the premises in 2010. “We have recommended the mission for a three-year registration,” said M Akhilandeswari, the district protection officer at Salem.

We want all poor orphanage missions should function without any complaint and to serve the needy people without expecting any profit from them.

The victim, who is in shock, is the daughter of a retired policeman and is supposed to join a beautician’s course in Delhi.

This incident is shameful for the whole nation. Because of their sons the parents of the culprits have to bow their head before public and at least in future, they should cultivate moral thoughts to their children from their young age.
