Michelangelo’s David, housed in Florence’s Accademia Gallery, is one of the most famous works of art, period. People who come to Florence, even those who don’t know what else to see, will almost always express a desire to see the original David (the one outside Palazzo Vecchio is, of course, a marble copy). Most people know that this work is a masterpiece by Michelangelo begun in the year 1501, that it’s sculpted in marble, it’s over life-size, and that it represents the biblical figure of David, who killed the giant Goliath with a stone from his slingshot.

The 15th century marble statue is among 67 masterpieces by renowned artists, mostly famous works from the Renaissance period, which have been brought to Beijing as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the National Museum of China. CCTV covered the genitals with a digital mosaic while broadcasting images from the museum on July 09, 2012 morning. BEIJING:

Revealing its prudish side, state-run China Central TV this week blurred the genitals of Michelangelo's masterpiece David during a programme on an art festival in Beijing, where the sculpture is on full view for those visiting the exhibition. The 15th century marble statue is among 67 masterpieces by renowned artists, mostly famous works from the Renaissance period, which have been brought to Beijing as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the National Museum of China. CCTV covered the genitals with a digital mosaic while broadcasting images from the museum on Monday morning.

CCTV's decision to treat the Italian master's 17-foot work, which was flown down from a Florence museum, like porn material spread like wildfire over Chinese internet almost immediately. The TV station reacted quickly to the criticism and removed the digital mosaic in its Monday evening bulletin, which showed the statue as it is. But interest in the CCTV move continued with several thousands of people speculating about why this was done. Sina micro blogs that follow the Twitter pattern reported that searches with keywords, "CCTV adds mosaic to statue" became the third most important search on10-7-2012 Tuesday.

Junior Vikatan Tamil Magazine had an interview with Arthi Rao who was said to be raped forty times by Nithyananda. The magazine has published the conversation of the interview with Arthi Rao in its magazine dated 15-7-2012. Arthi Rao has given a 43 page affidavit with Karnataka C.I.D.Police and the police are now taking action on that. Arthi Rao says “Devotees who go to Nithyananda’s ashram are all brainwashed.

There are thousands of well-off devotees (educated) who have donated crores of rupees to his ashram.” Arthi Rao says that according to her account, that 32 girls were affected by Nithyananda. Most of the girls were worked as personal secretary to Nithi. They were given titles as Mayi [Mother] and they were totally upset by Nith’s activities and they were unable to explain it openly to others.

Arthi Rao says that four girls are going to come out shortly and going to submit their complaints which are going to be a big shock to Nithyananda.

A former aide of Nithyananda, Lenin further alleged, “In a petition filed by Popatlal Salva at the California Court in USA, the court has given a judgment against Nithyananda Foundation and has termed it a fraud foundation. Addressing a press conference, he said, “Thirteen cases have been filed against me in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other places just because I am fighting against Nithyananda and his other activities. I am also facing a life threat from Nithyananda and I have lodged a complaint with the Tamil Nadu police about it.”

“The American Forensic Lab has given a report that the video of Nithyananda- Ranjitha CD scandal is genuine,” he claimed. “Junior Vikatan” Magazine in its issue dated 11-7-2012 has explained Papatlal Salva petition and the judgment by the California Court in regard to the Nithi’s Fraud Foundation.

It is the wishes of all the people of Tamil Nadu, that Madurai Adheenam Arunagiri swamigal must immediately remove Nithi from the junior pontiff post.

Arivattaya Nayanar was born as Thayanar on a Thiruvadhirai (Adra) star day in the Tamil month Thai in a wealthy Vellalar family in Kannanthangudi, a village located in Thanjavur district. Thayanar was a staunch devotee of Shiva and lived in Kannamangalam village with his wife. Though Thayanar was the richest man in Kannamangalam, he led a righteous life. He was blessed with fertile farmland and adequate wealth. Thayanar and his chaste wife vowed to spent self-less service to Shiva. The couple made it routine to offer fine variety of cooked rice along with spinach to Shiva as Naivedya (food offering). Thayanar continued his humble and modest life with devotion by serving Shiva and his devotees. Shiva wanted to test the devotion and faith of

Thayanar and his wife. Thayanar lost his wealth gradually, but his devotion still remained intact. Once a farm-owner, now Thayanar worked as a daily wage labourer in the fields. Yet he vowed to continue his devotional duties and offered Shiva cooked rice, made out of the grains he earned as wages. He was contended with the poor quality grains those remained for him and lived in poverty with his staunch faith in Shiva. Over a period of time the village was affected severely by drought and famine. Thayanar and his wife struggled to earn a livelihood and starved for days together.

Thayanar's wife was never discouraged by the hardships. For the continuance of services to the Lord, the couple sold everything they had. One day, the couple prepared and packed a basket full of cooked rice, green spinach, mango pickle, milk, curd, buttermilk, butter, ghee and the holy ashes. They proceeded towards Kannanthakudi Shiva temple to offer the food. The aged couple appeared thin and lost their energy due to incessant starvation. Hunger and poverty were taxing them. Thayanar, who carried the food basket lost his control and fell down on the ground. The food fell on the ground and was wasted. Thayanar was much moved and wept terribly. His carelessness was the reason for the loss of food meant for God and he wanted to punish himself for the sin.

He took a dagger and thrust it on his neck. Thayanar felt the presence of some force, preventing his attempt for suicide. When he opened his eyes, Shiva and his consort Parvati appeared before the couple by sitting on their celestial bull vehicle. Shiva appreciated the couple's selfless devotion and faith and declared that they passed their trial of faith. Shiva blessed the couple with Salvation.

Since saint Arivattaya Nayanar was born in the star Thiruvadhirai (Ārdrā) of Tamil month Thai, the saint is being worshipped in Shiva temples on this specific day and is celebrated as Arivattaya Nayanar's day. OM Namasivaayaa.

Vanchinathan was born in 1886 in Shenkottai to Raghupathy Iyer and Rukmani Ammal. His actual name was Shankaran. He did his schooling in Shenkottai and graduated in M.A. from Moolam Thirunal Maharaja College in Thiruvananthapuram. Even while in college, he married Ponnammal and got into a lucrative Government job. In those days several Lakhs of our Indian freedom fighters were crushed by British Rulers.

The atrocities created by British lighted the fire in the heart of young patriots. On June 17, 1911, Vanchi assassinated the district collector of Tirunelveli, who was also known as Collector Dorai. He shot Ashe at point-blank range when Ashe's train had stopped at the Maniyachi station, en route to Madras. He committed suicide thereafter. The railway station has since been renamed Vanchi Maniyachi Railway Station. On that day, Ashe Tirunelveli Collector boarded the 9-30 a.m. Maniyachi Mail at Tirunelveli junction.

With him was his wife, Mary Lillian Patterson, who had arrived from Ireland only a few days earlier. They had married on April 6, 1898, in Berhampore; Mary was about a year older than Ashe. They were on their way to Kodaikanal where their four children, Molly, Arthur, Sheila, and Herbert, lived in a rented bungalow. At 10-38 the train pulled in at Maniyachi. The Ceylon Boat Mail was due to arrive at 10-48. As the Ashes sat facing each other in the first class carriage, waiting for the Boat Mail to arrive, a neatly dressed man with tufted hair and another young man wearing a dhoti approached the carriage.

The former boarded the carriage and pulled out a Belgian-made Browning automatic pistol. The bullet hit Ashe in the chest and he collapsed. After the shooting Vanchi ran along the platform and hide in the latrine and shot himself with pistol. Some time later he was found dead, having shot himself in the mouth. Vanchi was a close friend of V.V.S.Aiyar or Va.Ve.Su Iyer), another freedom fighter who sought arms to defeat the British. He trained Vanchinathan to execute the plan in all perfection.

Every one of us talks about Independence and self rule. But in their conduct and behaviour they are following foreigners and not stood to our culture and civilization. At least we must tell our children to read the life history of martyrs who fought for our Independence.

Vanchi came to be hailed as a martyr and found a place in the Roll Call of Honour of the Indian Freedom Movement. Many years after India became free an agitation was put up successfully by locals to name the MANIYACHI RAILWAY JUNCTION after Vanchi as homage and tribute to his revered memory. We must be sincere to our Country and culture.

Kalaignar Karunanidhi was born on June 3, 1924, in the village of Thirukuvalai, near Thiruvarur in Tanjore district, the granary of Tamil Nadu. His father Muthuvel was a scholar and a pandit, and his mother Anjugam, a devoted and loving housewife. Karunanidhi during 19-4-1970 has written a essay about his beautiful village and he says he cannot forget the green paddy fields and temples in his village.
